The Psychology of Flowers

with Ariella Chezar & Leslie Jonath

July 8th - 9th. Nantucket, MA

Join us July 8th and 9th on Nantucket to explore floral design with Ariella Chezar, the psychology of flowers with Hafsa Lewis, and the art of storytelling with Leslie Jonath.

Created by Hafsa Lewis of Hafsa & Co., hosted at Melinda Puljic ‘s (Fleur Nantucket) stunning flower farm and gathering space.

DAY ONE: Flowers as an Experience

An introduction to “The Psychology of Flowers” with Hafsa Lewis.

Hands-on floral design and tutelage with Ariella Chezar. Ariella is a master floral designer and the author of four published books: Home in Bloom, Seasonal Flower Arranging, The Flower Workshop, and Flowers for the Table. Her work has graced the cover and pages of Martha Stewart Living, O Magazine, Better Homes and Gardens, Town and Country, and many more. She is a highly sought-after teacher and lecturer and has designed flower arrangements for the Obama White House. A leader in the “farm-to-flower” movement, Ariella lives in the Berkshires of Massachusetts, where her garden serves as inspiration for her designs.

Guests will learn Ariella’s approach to composition, movement, and seasonality. The day includes demonstration, guided design, and a deeper look at how florals shape atmosphere, gatherings, and lived experience. Flowers will be sourced from Melinda’s on-site garden, and attendees will work directly with locally grown, seasonal blooms.

DAY TWO: From Creation to Story

If Day One is about creating with your hands, Day Two is about giving that creation a voice.

Leslie Jonath is a seasoned editor and literary agent with a passion for projects about food and flowers. Before she founded her production company, Connected Dots Media, she was an editor at Chronicle Books, where she had the great joy of acquiring Ariella’s first book. She became Ariella’s literary agent and has since helped produce all four of Ariella’s books.

Leslie has produced a range of beautiful books in collaboration with leading creatives, including Floret Farm’s Cut Flower Garden, The Wonder of the Woodlands, Italy by Ingredients, and Flower House Mexico.  Leslie also played a key role in shaping what would later become the official proposal for Hafsa Lewis’s Flower Therapy, bringing her editorial insight to the work's early conceptual stages, with the book due for publication by Timber Press in Spring 2028.

In this session, Leslie will guide you through the art of storytelling, exploring how we tell stories across different formats, from newsletters and Substack to full-length book chapters. She will break down the narrative arc, help you distinguish between your ideas, and show you how to refine them into something cohesive and compelling. This is a deep dive into concept, an opportunity to step back, gain clarity, and begin shaping your ideas into meaningful, tangible work

While each day of this retreat can stand on its own, experiencing both creates a powerful full-circle moment: from creating with flowers to articulating their meaning, from intuition to expression, from experience to story. This is where your ideas take form.

Please choose from the drop-down.

Both days - $2,600

Day One - Ariella - $1,950

Day Two - Leslie - $950
